Root Canal Treatment in Columbia

What is a root canal?

A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed, well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges.

At the center of your tooth is the pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks, and chips, or repeated dental procedures.

Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.

Dr. Lawson examining a patient If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed.

Root canal therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases.

If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment.

Dr. Lawson uses local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine.

What happens after treatment?

When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are available at all times to respond. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.

How much will a root canal cost?

The cost associated with root canals can vary depending on factors such as the severity of damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.

The staff and the doctor were very professional, courteous, and kind. As an added bonus, the office decor is fishing themed and appears recently updated and modern and has a feel of prestige about it. My procedure took place in a timely manner, and to my surprise was completely pain free (other than the initial stick from numbing medication in the gum line) both during the procedure and afterwards. I was advised to take Advil or Tylenol after the numbing medication wore off, and to call the office should I need stronger pain relief. I didn’t even need the Advil at all. Once the numbing medication wore off, I was back to 100%. I would definitely return to this practice should I need another root canal or procedure.

Highly recommend Dr. Lawson and his staff. I went in for a root canal. I am terrified of any dental procedures. From the consult to the actual procedure, by far the best experience ever. They are all so caring and welcoming. During and after my procedure I didn't feel anything, no pain at all. I wish I could go to DR. Lawson’s office for all my dental procedures.

I was extremely nervous that my tooth was in such a difficult spot that Dr. Lawson wasn't going to be able to do the root canal, but once I came in everything went extremely smoothly and was just what I needed. Mrs. Lawson at the front desk was extremely pleasant and did a great job at helping calm my nerves. I Highly Highly recommend Dr. Lawson and his staff for root canals!

The entire office was so friendly and nice! I appreciated the welcoming environment and helpful staff. When Libby told me I could listen to headphones during the procedure absolutely made my day!! Celine was also AMAZING!!! She went above and beyond to help settle any nerves I had and made sure I had my music on point before the procedure started 🙂 THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!

I appreciated the various things offered to help ease my anxiety. The steps and procedures were explained thoroughly, so I was aware of what to expect next from the moment I walked in the door to when I paid at the end. This was the first time I was offered options for my anxiety to help me through the procedure. Being allowed to have the x-ray vest on top of me significantly helped during the procedure.
